Company Bio
Dive Works was formed in the winter of 1999. In those days I was
helping Glen Gordy of Sackett's Sailing Center run his charter company.
One thing we could never seem to find was a diver and it seemed we
needed one constantly. So after a season or two of us losing charters to
fouled props and what-nots I decided to buy a small compressor and do
the work myself. Across the dock was a brokerage, boats unlimited run by
Sparky and later Herb, who I should credit with nudging me into
developing a company around diving. So I cut my teeth on brokerage boats
which in hindsight should have run me off the idea completely. Most of
these boats should have required doing anenviromental imact study first
to determine the outcome of destroying 300 sq ft of floating reef. Some
brokerages, most I'd say, do not have the funds to throw at barnacle and
algae clearing...and so they don't until a buyer comes along and then
you need that 6yr old hull paint to look like it was has been shined and
polished daily just for them. That and you could rest assured that your
work would be sitting in a sling for all to see in next few days.
